Hidden Gem: Mayo's Best Swim Spot

Ssshhhhh - Let’s keep this one a secret! This beautiful little swim spot is located along the Portacloy Loop Walk in North Mayo and is relatively easy to access.

How to get there...

You park at Portacloy Loop-Cliff Walk on google maps and follow the trail up the cliff. Always keeping the ocean on your right. After about ten minutes of a walk, you’ll come across a fence. From here just follow the fence to your right and you’ve reached this quiet swim spot.

Now getting in and out can be a bit tricky so you should be a strong swimmer to even attempt it as there won’t be any lifeguards present. If you make your way down the right of the sheltered cove you should be able to access the water with a bit of manoeuvring over the rocks.

Pro Tips...

  • Make sure not to swallow the waterfall water, it’s quite gross.

  • Go at medium to high tide. It can be more dangerous at low tide as it’s quite shallow and hard to access.

  • Follow the trail further up the cliff for some epic views.

  • Bring a little picnic for the beach after your swim.

  • Check the weather before you go and only hike and swim in good conditions.
