Hike Walk Through: Ballinastoe to Djouce

There are so many different routes to the summit of Djouce, but today we're going to focus on my favourite route of all time. This route will start at the Wicklow Way Car Park at Luggala, and yes, that is the name to find it on google maps. Once you've reached the car park, there should be an obvious gap in the trees to the left when you're facing into the car park. That is where the trail starts.

The First Half...

The trick to the first section of this trail is to keep the Guinness Lake on your left. If you're ever unsure of which way to turn just open up Google Maps and make sure that the Guinness Lake, aka Lough Tay, is on your left. When you're walking through Ballinastoe Woods keep an eye out for the iconic Instagram spot along the boardwalk and also a gap in the trees to your left that will give breathtaking views of the Wicklow mountains.

The Second Half...

When you emerge from the woods you should follow the trail uphill to the JB Malone Memorial which offers a fantastic viewpoint of the Guinness Lake. From here the trail is easily followed up to the summit of Djouce. Keep an eye out to your right because on a clear day you can see all the way to Snowdonia in Wales. No that's not a joke, you can genuinely see Wales from the Wicklow Mountains. Although I've been up Djouce about ten times and I've only seen Wales once. However, you can almost always see the Great Sugar Loaf.
